Teeth whitening
A supervised bleaching of the natural enamel, done in one appointment.
What it is
Professional teeth whitening lightens the shade of your natural teeth using a controlled bleaching agent, done either in-clinic in a single visit or through supervised take-home trays over one to two weeks.
Who it's for
- Teeth naturally yellowed or stained by coffee, tea, or tobacco over time
- Healthy teeth and gums with no active decay
- Wanting a brighter shade before an event or occasion
- Patients wanting a controlled, dentist-supervised result over over-the-counter kits
Who it isn't for
- Whitening only works on natural tooth enamel; crowns, veneers, and fillings won't change colour, so visible restorations can end up mismatched, which is discussed before you start
- It won't correct intrinsic grey or dark discolouration from an old, root canal–treated tooth without additional treatment
- It's not recommended during pregnancy
If this is you, we'll say so at the first visit rather than after.
Questions
Questions people ask
How many shades lighter will my teeth get?
This varies by starting shade and cause of staining; our team will give you a realistic expectation at your consultation, not a guaranteed number.
How long do results last?
Typically several months to a couple of years, depending on diet and habits like smoking or coffee.
Will my teeth be sensitive afterward?
Mild, temporary sensitivity is common for a day or two and usually settles on its own.
In-clinic or take-home, which is better?
In-clinic gives faster results in one visit; take-home trays work gradually over about two weeks. Both are supervised, and our team can advise which fits your case.
What should I avoid after whitening?
Strongly pigmented foods and drinks (coffee, tea, red wine) for the first 24–48 hours, when teeth are most porous.
What affects the cost?
Whether you choose in-clinic or take-home treatment, and the number of sessions needed.
